The 2021 Masters…Gilmore vs Toods vs McGavin. How will Gilmore’s Unconventional Swing Hold up at Augusta?

Augusta, Georgia, December 8, 2021 - It’s Masters time here in Augusta, Georgia and these upcoming four days mark a major step for some of Athlete360’s greatest golf prospects, Happy Gilmore, Wiger Toods, and Shooter McGavin. What makes this tournament so important is not only will this be the first time any of them have competed at the Masters, it will also be the first time all three have played against each other. This became possible after all three won their qualifying events this last month in fine fashion to secure them a spot in the field of 100. McGavin won the Houston Open by 3 strokes, Toods took the Florida Invitational by 4, and Gilmore blew out the field by 9 in the Arctic Championship. Considering the veteran talent that fills the field and the difficulty of the golf course, competition will be very high and viewers are in for a treat.

Out of the three rookies, Happy Gilmore has been attracting the most media attention this week and this is in part due to his unorthodox golf swing. Unlike your typical golfer that stands over the top of the ball prior to hitting, Gilmore prefers a baseball-like approach that includes a step to gain power. “Oh hell yeah bud” said Happy when asked if his swing has been a source of controversy growing up. He continued, “Dawg, I’ve been getting questioned about my swing for years and you know what I say? Check the distance bro. With my swing, I’m able to generate 15 MPH more swing speed and an average of 70 yds more distance off the tee than with a standard stance. No one else on tour is capable of reaching my driving distances and that’s why I’m here. More distance equals more championships.” From this interview alone, you can tell Gilmore’s confidence is high heading into the Masters and so is ours here at Athlete360.

Gilmore’s coach, Chubbs Peterson, a former tour pro in his own right, is also on board with Happy’s swing. “Hey. Happy’s gonna Happy and I have no problem with how he’s swinging the club. Like they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and if you’ve seen the yardages he’s been producing, why would you ever change that? When asked about Gilmore’s key to winning, he said “a lot of it comes down to if the ball wants to go to its home. Sometimes the ball feels as if it’s too good for it’s home and that’s a problem we cannot afford to have this week.”

The Masters kick off Thursday at 10am and coverage starts on TSN at 1:00pm.

The Pigeons Attempt to Break Curse and Win First MLS Cup on Home Turf

New York City, New York, December 10th, 2021 - On Sunday, for the first time in their history, the New York FC, also known as Pigeons, will host the MLS Cup final. The New York FC will be playing in their third MLS Cup final in seven seasons and hope to continue their unbeaten run through the playoffs against the Toronto FC to conquer the all mighty title for the first time.

Throughout the years, the MLS has continued to increase their fan base due to the astonishing increase in young talents that have been joining the teams. This has led to a much-needed exposure of the league to the rest of the world including the top 5 soccer leagues that have started to scout from the MLS. Examples include Alphin Daves that signed a lucrative contract with FC Bayern Munich this past summer. Meaning, we are about to see the next crop of youngsters showcase their talents in this final head-to-head of the season.

The two recruits delegated by Athlete360 have shown tremendous raw talent and have been promoted to the starting eleven for their respective teams. The 18-year-old Dani Romano, a center attacking midfielder playing for the New York City FC, has proven his worth by providing 4 assists and 2 goals through their play-off campaign. On the other hand, Ricardo Bologa, a 19 year-old striker playing for Toronto FC has shown a tremendous deal of clinical finishing in front of net scoring an astonishing 9 goals and 1 assist through the playoff run.

Out of the two youngsters, Dani Romano has been the most outspoken out of the two notably due to his team’s unbeaten run.

“We’ve never won the [MLS} cup but we’ve been here [MLS Cup final] twice already so we are looking forward to breaking the curse! Our opponent seems strong, but they cannot be compared to our team. We have a lot more hunger in us and we are ready to show them what we’ve got.” Said Romano this past Friday’s press conference.

The youngster’s coach added;

“We’ve had an incredible run through the playoffs and so we are very confident coming into this game and we most certainly will win it” said the New York FC coach Ronny Delilah.

It seems like the New York FC team has it in the bag but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Kick off will be this Sunday December 11th at 2pm (EST) on ESPN.
